NYFW SPRING 2016 Q&A WITH MICHELLE SMITH

The MILLY Spring/Summer collection is set to make its Runway debut at #NYFW.

We stole a minute with MILLY founder and designer,

Michelle Smith, to get the scoop on the collection and the creative process behind it.

Q:What were your biggest inspirations for the Spring ‘16 Collection?

A: If you follow me on Instagram (@millybymichelle) you know that I live for summer. I was inspired by that raw, organic beauty of the seaside in summer - this collection is really inspired by my romance with the season. There is a sophisticated sultriness, with off-the-shoulder silhouttes and minimalist culottes. It’s an easy, nonchalant glamour we all want to capture – romantic and modernist at the same time.

Q: What can we expect in terms of color?

A: The color palette is gradient, inspired by the sky during sunset – it ranges from sunbleached sea and sky tones to vivid, saturated citron, copper and flame tones.

Q: Tell us a little about the fabrics this season:

A: Fabrics are my favorite part of the process. Since I was into the idea of undone glamour, I decided to use utilitarian fabrics I don’t normally use – from linen and poplin to sunwashed denim. I used really refined techniques and precise tailoring, which helps create dramatic, sculptural cascades, and takes the collection into romantic territory.
